Intro by Esther
When I was interning for Amirah a few years ago, one organization that often came up in conversations as we were getting the program set-up was Restore NYC. To us, Restore was a rock star - we just wanted to be cool kids like them! Fast forward to now, Restore was nominated by one of bonJOY's brand ambassadors to be a Give-Back Partner this year. I was delighted to reach out to the team and see what Restore is doing these days...and I'm SO happy I did! One of the Restore team, Emily Ward, provided me some awesome information to share with you. As you read further, you'll learn about their #GiveBackMothersDay Campaign. Being a new mom myself, the details of this campaign hit home for me. I want to give my baby the best life and I need to work in order to do so. The mothers who are being supported by Restore desire the same thing I do, but on top of that have to deal with trauma and other harsh difficulties. If you're a mom, I especially encourage you to consider supporting this great campaign. Let's be sisters helping our sisters and bless the lives of these women together!
Now, on to what Emily says Restore NYC is about and how you can link arms with them!
About Restore NYC
Restore NYC identifies and serves foreign national women who have survived sex trafficking. We believe trafficking is a problem that has a solution, and we are fighting this injustice in NYC and across the country.
We use a holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive approach. Our commitment is that these women experience greater independence and well-being.
As one of the primary nonprofits providing counseling and advocacy through the Human Trafficking Intervention Courts, our services include trafficking identification and educating clients about their legal rights, trafficking, and community resources.
Our partnerships with law enforcement, community groups, and churches allow us to identify and connect survivors of sex trafficking to a range of resources, including our Client Services, Safehome, and Economic Empowerment programs.
3rd Annual #GiveBackMothersDay Campaign
There are countless ways to get plugged in and support the work of Restore. One exciting way to get involved is through our 3rd Annual #GiveBackMothersDay Campaign, kicking off this April.
Over 70% of the survivors we serve at Restore are mothers.
Being a mother is part of what made the women we serve vulnerable to trafficking. Desperate to provide for their kids, they were taken advantage of and exploited in unimaginable ways.
The goal of #GiveBackMothersDay is to raise $100,000 by Mother’s Day to support moms on their path to independence.
The #1 request we hear from survivors is "help me find a safe, honest job."
The mothers we serve want to work, but due to the trauma they've experienced, and language, cultural, and education barriers, without support, finding a job that can support their families is often difficult.
This is why we created our Economic Empowerment program: to support women as they prepare for work in the U.S. and to connect them with safe employment to support their families.
Most of the mothers we work with are separated from their children who are often still living in their home country. Without employment and a secure place to live, reunification with their kids is often not possible. Women tell us that if it weren't for Restore's help connecting a woman to a job, she would not have been able to bring her child to the U.S.
By investing in the mothers we serve, we invest in their children’s futures and generations to follow. Literature says that for every $10,000 increase in parental income, future incomes of children rise by 3.6%. We are encouraged and motivated knowing that after our first Economic Empowerment pilot group, 82% of members were employed and incomes increased on average by $695 each month, or $8,340 annually.
We are committed, year after year, to serving mothers who have endured too much suffering and we need partners like you to sustain this hard but important work.
